Lions Club 2002-2003 Board of Directors

With thunderous applause, members and friends of the San Pedro Lions Club welcomed the newly inducted 2002-2003 board of directors and new members during the official installation ceremony held last Saturday at the Lions Den. Inducted as the Chief Executive Officer (President) was Lion Francisco "Pancho" Verde.

Lion Angel Nuņez served as the Master of Ceremonies for this important celebration and called on Lion Abel Guerrero Sr. to lead the gathering in prayer. San Pedro Lions Queen Debbie Ann Graniel gave the Welcome Address.

Lion Beto Marin, Past District Governor, had the distinguished pleasure of installing three new members to the Club: Melanie Paz sponsored by Lion Eileen Jamison, Mel Spain sponsored by Lion Dan Jamison and Bill Thorton (member at large) sponsored by Lion Felix Ayuso Jr.

Zone Chairman Lion Dr. Chris Bennett of the Belize City Lions Club had the honor of installing the 2002-2003 Board of Directors. Lion Bennett read the duties of the chosen directors as a reminder of the important tasks they accepted in leading the Club. Immediately after the installation ceremony, newly inducted Lion President Francisco Verde gave his acceptance speech asking all members to "help navigate the 'ship' (club) instead of leaving it anchored in one place, losing parts little by little."

The keynote speaker for the evening was Zone Chairman-Elect Lion Ali Kisling of the Belmopan Lions Club. Lion Kisling urged the new board of directors to give their best during their term in office and to embark on a plan that integrates youths into the Lions organization. He also challenged all Lion members to broaden their vision in creating ideas that are workable and that can be implemented and accomplished within their community with ease and confidence. Lion Kisling asked all Past District Governors to support their club and not to linger in the shadows. Before ending his speech Lion Kisling stated, "Times have changed; we cannot be complacent. Let us all work together to face the problems confronting us; let us put in place projects to alleviate and eventually erase them."

Outgoing President Lion Alex Eiley then awarded a number of deserving Lions with the prestigious 100% Attendance Award, Outstanding Contribution Award and Membership Increase Award. Lion Alex Eiley also presented outgoing Zone Chairman Lion Chris Bennett with a commemorative plaque for his dedication and service as Zone Chairman for the past two years.

Following the Vote of Thanks by Lion Rosario Guerrero and the singing of the Lions theme song, the attendees enjoyed three dance performances given by members of The Dance Factory of Wisconsin, USA. Guests then enjoyed a mouthwatering dinner and danced the night away to the rhythmic and melodious music provided by Wil Nuņez, Dale Wallace and Oscar Aguilar.

The 2002-2003 San Pedro Lions Club Board of Directors consists of the following: President - Francisco Verde; Immediate Past President - Alex Eiley; Vice Presidents - Nita Marin and Joe Alamilla; Secretary - Ruben Gonzalez; Treasurer - Abel Guerrero Sr.; Tail Twister - Severo Guerrero Sr.; Lion Tamer - Lupe Caceres; Two-year Directors - Ramon Guerrero and Manuel Heredia Jr.; One-year Directors - Dan Jamison and Shelly Huber; and Attendance and Membership - Beto Marin.
