Costa Maya Festival only three weeks away

The Costa Maya Committee is pleased to report that all details for the upcoming Costa Maya Festival are falling into place. Already, participating countries have confirmed both their queen representative for the Reina de la Costa Maya Pageant and cultural presentations. The pageant committee has announced that 20 year-old Becky Belinda Bernard will now replace Miss Belize 2002-2003 Karen Russell as Belize's representative for the pageant. Guatemala will be well represented by Carina Maribel Velasquez, Miss Guatemala Universe 2002; Honduras by Lesly Caballeros; El Salvador by Pamela Portillo; and Mexico by Nuestra Belleza Nuevo Leon Elsa Lucia Burgos Perez. This bevy of beauties will make this year's Reina de la Costa Maya Pageant a well-contested event which promises to be full of beauty and glamour. The San Pedro Sun will feature pictures of the contestants in an upcoming issue of this newspaper.

    The committee has already confirmed the following entertainment for this year's festival: Thursday, August 15th  Reina de la Costa Maya Pageant featuring international soap opera star and ex-Menudo star Johnny Lozada, accompanied by Reina de La Costa Maya 2000 Sandra Glower Silis and Miss Costa Maya Belize representative 2001 Melina Diaz. Friday, August 16th Cultural Fiesta with special performances by Ballet Folklorico del Instituto de Quintana Roo, Ballet de Iguat from Guatemala, Ballet de la Universidad Nacional de El Salvador, Cuadro Nacional de Danzas Folkloricas de Honduras, San Pedro Dance Company and Barbara's Dance Group. Saturday, August 17th International Night featuring actress/singer Maribel Guardia accompanied by Mariachis and Santino's Messengers. Sunday, August 18th Belize Jump-Up with  Santino's Messengers. 

    Tickets for the festival will be available soon and will sell for: Season Passes  Adults - $85/Children - $40. Day Passes Adults - $20/Children - $10. International Night Passes  Adults - $50/Children $20.

    Persons interested in purchasing a food or product booth, may do so by contacting Mr. Wil Alamilla Jr. at telephone number 226-2180. Cost per booth is $400.
