Visiting San Pedro earlier this week was charming Becky Belinda Bernard, Belize's representative for the Reina de la Costa Maya Pageant. This twenty year-old Belizean beauty was the second runner-up at the Miss Belize 2001-2002 pageant. Becky is five feet, eight inches tall, has shimmering brown skin, brown hair and brown eyes. While in "La Isla Bonita," The San Pedro Sun caught up with Miss Bernard for a one-on-one interview.
Becky is a graduate of St. Catherine's Academy where she achieved eight CXC passes. She also holds an Associate's Degree in Business, majoring in accounting from St. John's College Junior College. Becky's professional aspiration is to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and she was happy to report her acceptance to the University of Belize where she will begin classes just days after the pageant.
Miss Bernard is currently employed at Fulton Data Processing International and lectures part-time at Sunsplash Digimart Limited. Becky also enjoys working with children and interacting with her community. She is a volunteer at the Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital and also assists with the annual toy drive for the Belize Child Care Center. When she is not at work or volunteering her services, she enjoys reading and surfing the web to keep updated with happenings around the globe.
A very excited Becky told this newspaper that the Miss Belize Organization gave her the opportunity to represent Belize in this prestigious pageant and she is very much looking forward to promoting her country in this international event. Regarding her preparation for this event, Miss Bernard explained, besides going to the gym every morning, she is also keeping abreast of the happenings in Belize, especially where tourism is concerned. She enjoys learning all aspects of Belizean culture and lifestyle and embraces all that is Belize. Becky is passionate when she expresses her love for Belize and feels that this pageant will also help her to prepare for Nuestra Belleza or the Miss World Pageant where she also hopes to represent Belize.
In a final comment to The San Pedro Sun this beguiling beauty ambassador stated, "I invite all Belizeans and visitors to San Pedro to take part in this festival. I encourage you to witness the unique cultures of the Mundo Maya countries that come together in one place during this international festival. Come support all the contestants, and enjoy all that make us part of the Mundo Maya - a world full of culture, beauty and friendship."
With those words of encouragement, The San Pedro Sun joins Miss Becky Bernard in extending an invitation for everyone to visit the 2002 International Costa Maya Festival.
