Belize implements temporary ban to citizens of the Far East and Canada

    Press Release - Ministry of Home Affairs - April 22nd, 2003 - In view of the "SARS" epidemic presently affecting Far East countries and Canada, the Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Ralph Fonseca, has imposed a temporary ban on the entry into Belize of persons from the following countries:

1. Mainland China
2. Hong Kong
3. Singapore
4. Vietnam
5. India
6. Canada

    No visas or entry permits will be issued to persons from these countries for the time being. Entry into Belize may also be refused to any suspected case of SARS from any other country. All airlines are being informed accordingly. Belizeans are advised not to travel to any of the above named countries until further notice.

    The Immigration Department is working closely with the Ministry of Health to ensure that SARS is not carried into Belize by travelers.
