San Pedro's Tanisha Ecological Tours was
recently recognized as one of the "most informative, educational and
ecological tour companies in Central America" by Business Initiative
Directions (BID). Owners Daniel and Elodia Nuñez traveled to Geneva,
Switzerland last month to receive the Century International Gold Quality
Era Award and Trophy presented to their tour company for its "Commitment
to Quality and Excellence".
The BID international selection committee notified
Tanisha Ecological Tours of this honor by mail on February
15th, 2003. The proud
owners were "taken by complete surprise" and later discovered that Blue
Dream Productions had recommended Tanisha for the award. Blue Dream, a
private Belgian film studio visited the island last summer and nominated
Tanisha Ecological Tours following a video they shot while
experiencing a Tanisha tour. This footage aired on European television in
five different countries, and was viewed by the BID selection committee.
In addition, the committee was impressed by the client comments they
reviewed on the tour company's website as well as those mentioned on
ambergriscaye.com
The presentation of the award took place at Geneva
Convention 2003 held May
4 th &
5th, 2003. Jose
Prieto, President and CEO of Business Initiative Directions, as well as
outstanding personalities from the international business world and
members of the diplomatic corps in Switzerland, were in attendance.
Daniel Nuñez has been a tour guide for the past 17
years and performs all of the Tanisha Ecological Tours himself. He
specializes in bird watching and botanical tours, and was a "pioneer" in
establishing the Lamanai Maya ruin trip. Elodia, also a tour guide,
chooses to promote the business "from the inside," booking tours and
educating visitors. The couple recently completed construction on their
new location on upper Pescador Drive in San Pedro Town.
BID carries out continuous polls of
companies nominated for awards from 166 countries worldwide. These
companies must meet the criteria of Total Quality Management (TQM). This
is an organizational approach to continuously improve business processes
and systems, through behavioral and cultural change. The primary
objective of TQM is customer satisfaction. It involves basic principles
such as involving and respecting all people - members, customers,
suppliers and staff. TQM companies must have a quality-driven
organization, a customer-minded approach, job satisfaction, and system
efficiency.
On behalf of the community, The San
Pedro Sun salutes Tanisha Ecological Tours for their
achievement and for promoting responsible tourism in Belize.
