The stage is set
once again for major entertainment as the 2003 International Costa Maya
Festival draws near. Announced as headliners for the event are Cuban
entertainer Niurka and Mexican celebrity Gabriel Soto who are sure to
draw a crowd to this year's festivities.
In addition, all five Mundo Maya countries
(Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Belize) have confirmed
their participation. The Costa Maya Festival will be held from August
7th to the
10th at the Old
Football Field in San Pedro.
The big star for International Night, Saturday,
August 9 th is
35-year-old, Cuban singer and actress Niurka Marcos.
Niurka who resides in Mexico City has
acted in several telenovelas (soap operas) including: "Salome" (2001) ñ
Karicia, "Nunca Te Olvidare" (1999) ñ Alcatraz, "Tres Mujeres" (1999) ñ
YamilÈ, "Gotita de Amor" (1998), and "Vivo por Elena" (1998) ñ Myrtha.
Her musical talent is featured on the album "Quiero Vivir"
(2000).
The host for the Reina de la Costa Maya Pageant
is Mexican actor, model and singer Gabriel Soto Borja Diaz. Gabriel Soto
is a former Mr. Mexico, and he was second runner-up in the "Mr. Mundo"
contest. The telenovelas he has acted in include: "Las VÌas del Amor"
(2002) ñ Adolfo, "Amigas y Rivales" (2001) ñ Ulises "el feo," "Mi destino
eres T™" (2000) ñ Nicol·s, "Carita de Angel" (2000) ñ Rogelio Alvarado
Gamboa, and "Alma Rebelde" (1999) ñ Vlademir. Apart from acting in
telenovelas, Gabriel is also a singer in the group "Kairo," whose music
includes "Libres" and "Pasiones".
