NEMO conducts EOC Workshops

The Secretariat of the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) announced this week that it is conducting a series of Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Workshops during the months of June and July. The San Pedro Emergency Committee workshop is scheduled for July 11th.

    The purpose of the Emergency Operations Center Training is to enhance participants' capabilities and management of their own Operations Center in times of an emergency. Emergency Operations Committee members will be exposed to the structure of an EOC and instructed on the roles of key personnel. They will also be taught how to understand and effectively develop a communications network, for information exchange in response to disasters.

    To date, Emergency Operations Committee workshops have been concluded in Belmopan, Belize District and San Ignacio. Other locations are scheduled as follows: Corozal Districtñ 27th June, Stann Creek Districtñ 1st July, Toledo Districtñ 4th July, Orange Walk District- 9th July and San Pedro Townñ 11th July, 2003.

    These and other consultations were arranged so that district and village emergency committees and community personnel can improve plans before the onset of the next hurricane.

    The members of the San Pedro Emergency Committee are: Chairperson/Area Representative Manuel Heredia Jr.; Vice Chair/Mayoress Elsa Paz, Operations Officer James Janmohamed, Transportation Members - Councilor Justiniano "Nano" Guerrero, Transport Officer Baldemar Alpuche and Luis Zapata, Evacuation Officers - Councilor Juan Alamilla and Orlando Salazar, Tourist Representative - Kevin Gonzalez, Supplies Members - Deputy Mayor Severo Guerrero Sr. and Councilor Romel "Nesto" Gomez, Communications Member -  Jim Diehl, Belize Electricity Ltd. Officer-in-Charge - Chris Nuñez, Belize Water Services Officer-in-Charge - Aaron Locke, Belize Telecommunications Ltd. Technician-in- Charge - Aaron Hendricks, Police Officer-in-Charge - Sergeant James Moreira, BDF Liaison - to be announced, Medical Officer ñ Dr. Giovanni Solorzano, Public Health - Inspector Javier Alpuche, Shelter Member ñ Councilor Joseph Elijio and Fire Service Officer-in-Charge - Jerome Garcia.

    San Pedro's primary hurricane shelter is the Roman Catholic Primary School. The San Pedro Emergency Committee can be reached at the SP Town Hall by calling 226-2198.
