The Secretariat of
the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) announced this week
that it is conducting a series of Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
Workshops during the months of June and July. The San Pedro Emergency
Committee workshop is scheduled for July
11th.
The purpose of the Emergency Operations Center
Training is to enhance participants' capabilities and management of their
own Operations Center in times of an emergency. Emergency Operations
Committee members will be exposed to the structure of an EOC and
instructed on the roles of key personnel. They will also be taught how to
understand and effectively develop a communications network, for
information exchange in response to disasters.
To date, Emergency Operations Committee workshops have
been concluded in Belmopan, Belize District and San Ignacio. Other
locations are scheduled as follows: Corozal Districtñ
27 th June, Stann Creek
Districtñ 1st July,
Toledo Districtñ 4th
July, Orange Walk District-
9th July and San Pedro
Townñ 11th July,
2003.
These and other consultations were arranged so that
district and village emergency committees and community personnel can
improve plans before the onset of the
next hurricane.

San Pedro's primary hurricane shelter is
the Roman Catholic Primary School. The San Pedro Emergency Committee can
