The Central Housing Committee has appointed Ms. Merlene "Mel" Spain the Chairperson of the Ambergris Caye Planning Committee. A current San Pedro Town Councilor and a former San Pedro Deputy Mayoress, Ms. Spain received an official letter stating her appointment as of July 9th, 2003. She has been the "temporary" Committee Chair since the resignation of Emetorio Sansorez last month.
In an interview with The San Pedro Sun, Ms. Spain said she would do her best "to work with the people and will attempt to uphold the concepts of the Ambergris Caye Master Plan." As part of her appointment, she affirmed that Chief Engineer Enrique Rosado of the Housing and Planning Department, as well as representatives from the Departments of Environment and Lands, would review all plans. Ms. Spain also added that the committee's financial reports would be submitted to the Central Housing Department every month for review.
The AC Planning Committee consists of Chairperson Merlene Spain and members Norman Eiley, Narciso Flota, Gualberto Nuņez Sr., Armando Gonzalez and Mayoress Elsa Paz as Ex-Officio. The committee meets every month and their next meeting is scheduled for July 25th. Anyone needing more information may call 226-2258.
