International Costa Maya Festival is almost here!

With the Costa Maya 2003 only three weeks away, the festival committee remains busy confirming entertainers, performers and contestants for this year's event. Announced as the entertainment for Friday, August 8th is the sensational "Las Chicas Roland" from Honduras. Made up of beautiful and very talented young ladies, everyone will surely be delighted by Las Chicas Roland's show, especially the men. Their performance is said to make your heart, eyes, and ears "vibrate," in every sense of the word. Las Chicas Roland originated nine years ago, and has performed at events in US cities, such as Washington DC, New Orleans and Miami.

Four of the five queens representing the Mundo Maya countries (Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Belize) have confirmed their participation in this year's Costa Maya Festival. The following contestants will vie for the title "Reina de la Costa Maya 2003-2004: Mexico - Diana Juarez Rodriguez de la Gala; Guatemala - Carina Velasquez; El Salvador - Rocio Linnette Macal, and Honduras - Karla Isabel Mendoza Kipps. As of press time, Pageants Belize could still not confirm the representative for Belize. The San Pedro Sun will feature more information and pictures of the contestants in an upcoming issue.

The following is the schedule of events that will take place at this year's festival. Thursday, August 7th, 2003 - Reina de La Costa Maya Pageant hosted by Mexican actor, model and singer Gabriel Soto. Following the pageant, a musical band will entertain all night long. Friday, August 8th, 2003 - Honduran musical talent "Las Chicas Roland" will be sure to liven up the festivities. Identidades cultural group from El Salvador will also perform. Saturday, August 9th, 2003 - International Night featuring Cuban singer and actress, Niurka Marcos. Super G with Grigaholix, Mexican folkloric group Sian Ka'an, the mariachis "Los Compadres" from Merida, Mexico and the San Pedro Dance Company will also entertain. Sunday, August 10th, 2003 - All-day "Jump up."

Tickets for the festival will be on sale soon for: Season Passes - Adults $85/Children $40; Day Passes - Adults $20/Children - $10 and International Night Passes - Adults $50/ Children $20.
