Looking for something to do this weekend? Then check out the Miss Estereo Amor pageant being held on Saturday, August 2nd at the Novelo's Convention Center in Santa Elena, Cayo.

Lovely 17-year-old Yesmyn Aracely Galvez will represent San Pedro in this pageant. Originally from Tiquizate, Esquintla, Guatemala, she moved to the island more than three years ago after living with her grandmother, Merida Castillo, in Guatemala until she was thirteen years old. Yesmyn is the daughter of Oscar and Ana Moralez who have resided in San Pedro for the past ten years. Yesmyn studied at Saint Peter's College for one year and is presently taking private classes. Her hobbies include dancing, reading and playing basketball.

Yesmyn stated "I feel that I am prepared to go and fight for the crown, and bring it back to San Pedro. I have been practicing for this beauty pageant for the past month. I feel very happy and excited because my parents are supporting me. I also feel a little nervous, for it's going to be an entirely new experience for me. I would like to invite all the people of San Pedro to accompany and support me on August 2nd, 2003 at the Novelo's Convention Center. I would also like to thank The San Pedro Town Council, Lily Nuñez, and all the businesses of San Pedro who have helped me and supported me so that my dream of participating in Miss Estereo Amor can become a reality."

The other contestants include: Siomari Panti (17) - Succotz; Jackie August (17) - Santa Elena; Geysi Orrego (18) - Dangriga; Karina Reymundo (19) - Benque Viejo del Carmen; and Mary Lucille Galvez (17) - San Ignacio.

At the pageant, Miss Estereo Amor participants will perform together in a dance presentation. The contest will include a swimwear, eveningwear, and talent segments. Since many Belizeans are Spanish speaking, Estereo Amor feels that there is a need for positive role models in the Latino community. The Miss Estero Amor Pageant will be unique, in that, the contestants will be able to showcase their Latin culture utilizing the Spanish language. Mayra Guerra, Miss Estereo Amor 2002-2003, will crown this year's winner.

Yesmyn's costume for the cultural presentation will depict the Belize Barrier Reef. It will include fish, corals, lobsters, sea fans, and "everything else you can find in the sea."

General Admission for the pageant is $10 for adults, $5 for children under twelve years old, and $15 for reserve seats.

After the crowning of Miss Estereo Amor 2003-2004, a celebration dance will be held at Lisse's Night Club in San Ignacio with Stereomatic Sounds and the hottest Punta Rock star, Super G.

Official sponsors for this year's Miss Estereo Amor Pageant are: The San Ignacio Resort, Windy Hill Resort, The Aguada Motel, Log Cab-Inns, Maya Walk Tours, Thunderbolt Tours, and Novelo's Bus Company (the official transportation for the Miss Estereo Amor Pageant). Medina's House of Jewelry will be providing a special gift for the contestant with the most original costume.
