Once again, the stage will be set for major entertainment, as the Miss San Pedro 2003-2004 Pageant will be held this Saturday, September 6th, 2003 at Central Park. Starting at 8:00 p.m., this glamorous event will mark the beginning of the September celebrations. This year, five lovely young ladies will compete for the title of Miss San Pedro: Gladys Urbina, Velia Pech, Tatiana Rivero, Yesmyn Galvez and Sheena Torres.

On Thursday, August 28th, 2003 the contestants enjoyed a delicious lunch at Victoria House, where they were able to spend some time getting to know each other. When interviewed by The San Pedro Sun, each one of the young ladies had positive things to say about the pageant. The following is a short biography on each of the contestants and their comments on the experience so far.

Gladys Urbina, 16, is a third form Commercial Studies student at San Pedro High School. Her parents are Gladys Alvarado and Miguel Rivero, and she grew up in San Pedro. "I feel excited because it is a new experience for me and I will do the best that I can. I hope to get everyone's support because I believe that I could be a good Miss San Pedro for the community."

Velia Pech, 16, is also a third form student majoring in academic studies at San Pedro High School. She was born in San Pedro to parents Nancy and Ricardo Pech. "I am excited and nervous at the same time, because this is something that I have wanted to do since I was a little girl. If I do win this pageant, I will make sure that I make San Pedro proud."

Yesmyn Galvez, 17, is presently working (self employed). Her parents are Anna and Oscar Moralez. Yesmyn was recently named Miss Photogenic at the Miss Estereo Amor pageant held a few weeks ago. "I am very happy to be participating once again in a pageant. I am also very happy to meet other young ladies. I would like to thank the organizers of this pageant for inviting me to participate and I invite the whole community of San Pedro to support us in this event."

Sheena Torres, 18, is presently studying at St. John's College in Belize City and she is majoring in Literature and Psychology. She was born in Belize City, to parents Vanessa Guerrrero and Erwin Torres Sr.
