, 1973, to
Mrs. Wilema Alamilla and Mr. Wilfredo Alamilla Sr. Although she was born
in Belize City, Wilema was raised with her two older brothers, Wilfredo
Alamilla Jr. and Eddy Alamilla in "La Isla Bonita," where she presently
resides. One of the brightest students in her class, she graduated from
San Pedro Roman Catholic School. Wilema recalled, "One of my most
enjoyable childhood experiences was being a member of the "Honeymoon
Dancers." For nearly ten years, she performed all over the country of
Belize, dancing to the beat of all types of music. During her years at
San Pedro High School, Wilema kept herself in good physical shape by
playing on the school's volleyball team. She also volunteered her time to
the San Pedro Youth Movement for almost six years.
In 1989, Wilema displayed all of her beauty and brains
as a contestant in the prestigious Miss San Pedro Pageant, earning the
title of Miss San Pedro 1989-1990. Despite all of these exciting
experiences and achievements, Wilema remained at the top of her class at
San Pedro High School, graduating with honors in June of 1990. Named the
class Valedictorian, she was the pride of her family, teachers and
classmates.
Little did Wilema know then, what the future had
in store for her. She participated in two more pageants the next year,
where the judges found that Wilema possessed both beauty and
intelligence. In 1990, she was crowned Miss San Pedro Lions and later
voted Miss Lions District 59 at the Lions National Convention. This gave
Wilema the opportunity to travel as the Belize Lions District 59 Queen to
the Lions International Convention in Miami, Florida, USA. Feeling very
fortunate, she did a splendid job representing the people of her island
and her country.
Combining all of the skills she had accumulated during
her short life, Wilema landed her first job at the age of 19 at The
Belize Bank Ltd. There, Wilema was able to use her high school knowledge
and put her talents into practice. She proved to be not only a beauty
queen but also a sophisticated young lady. After four and half years of
employment at The Belize Bank, Wilema went to work at Atlantic Bank Ltd.,
another well-known firm. There, she was given the chance to prove that
she had "what it takes" to build a strong foundation for her future. In
her fourth year of employment, she was sent for advanced training at the
bank's Belize City branch. It was during this training, though, that
Wilema met and fell in love with Rudy Gonzalez, who was also an employee
of Atlantic Bank at the time.
After a year of getting to know each other, Wilema and
Rudy decided that it was time to "tie the knot". In December of 1998, the
couple declared their vows of marriage to each other. Following the birth
of their first child, Rudy Gonzalez Jr., Wilema's need to devote quality
time to her son changed the direction of her life, from a banking career
to a full-time loving mom.
After a year of motherhood, it was time for Wilema and
her newfound family to move back home to "La Isla Bonita". She began a
new job at The Island Academy primary school, where eventually she
accepted all the responsibilities of Office Administrator. After three
years of dedication and hard work, Wilema took time off to bring a second
little angel into the world, Mia Angelee Gonzalez.
When she is not busy at The Island Academy, Wilema
spends time with her husband and two children. She also offers her time
and talents as the co-host and Mistress of Ceremonies at local events
such as the Miss San Pedro and Miss Costa Maya International Pageants,
where other young women compete to enjoy the opportunities she had.
Wilema continues to be a role model for her children,
her students and other young island women. By possessing all the right
attributes, she demonstrates what it takes to become a "queen" in "Our
Community."
