Sean McDermott with Jeanette Anderson

Many residents of San Pedro had the pleasure of experiencing a
little taste of Broadway last Saturday as singer/actor Sean McDermott
gave a benefit concert to raise funds for Ms. Jeanette Anderson, whose
home was recently destroyed by fire.
The first-class performance held at Coconuts Pirate's Pub
attracted a large number of residents and tourists who jumped at the
chance to enjoy Sean's powerful tenor voice. More than $4,000 was
raised during Mr. McDermott's hour-long medley, which included some of
his newest singles, and classics like "New York, New York".
At the end of his concert, thunderous applause echoed throughout
the building as the audience cheered Sean's grand performance and the
many who donated money for Ms. Jeanette. Through this medium, the
organizers of the event would like to thank all the people who
contributed and everyone who attended.
Sean's last performance on Ambergris Caye was back on April 2nd,
2000, in front of a large crowd at The BoatYard. The two-hour concert
was also a charity benefit for the San Pedro Lions Inter-Community
Hospital.
Sean is the son of San Pedro resident Corry McDermott and has been
visiting the island since 1972. Born and raised in Colorado, USA, Sean
McDermott has established himself as one of Broadway's leading
performers. He has played the roles of "Chris" in the Broadway
production of Miss Saigon with Lea Salonga and Jonathan
Pryce, "Whizzer" opposite Mandy Patinkin in Mames Lapine's production
of Falsettos, "Rusty" in Trevor Nunn's production of Starlight Express,
and "Danny Zuko" in the smash hit revival of Grease. Off-Broadway
credits include the role of "Larry" in the critically acclaimed The
Boys in the Band. In the Houston area of Texas, Sean played "Sid
Sorokin" in the Opera House production of The Pajama Game, and has also
played roles in Chess, Carousel, Jesus Christ Superstar, Showboat, and
most recently the character "Billy Flynn" in Chicago.
On television, Sean starred as Hart Jessup in the long running CBS
daytime soap opera The Guiding Light. He also appeared on NBC's The
Tonight Show. Sean has sung for the President of the United States on
three separate occasions, and for England's former Duchess of York,
Sarah Ferguson. Sean's recordings include New York Nights, My Broadway
and Piece of Sky, available on Jay Records.
