Truly triumphant is the one who strives and is able to climb the
ladder of success." A very truthful saying, San Pedro has been blessed
with many ambitious people who possess the courage and determination to
better their lives. This week, The San Pedro Sun is happy to feature a
young woman, born and raised in San Pedro, whose loyalty and dedication
to her work has rewarded her with a career and an opportunity to make a
good life for herself - Rosita Ayuso.
Born on April 13th, 1969, the oldest daughter of Elena and Felix
Ayuso Sr., Rosita grew in a very close-knit family with her sister and
two brothers. During her elementary school days, Rosita proved to be
both a responsible and disciplined student - skills that gained her a
fully paid scholarship to complete high school. During this time, she
also learned the "value of the dollar," while working part-time as a
kitchen assistant at Micky's Restaurant. Rosita excelled in all of her
high school studies but due to unforeseen circumstances, she was forced
to drop out of school, only one year before she graduated.
In 1996, Rosita met the person who would give her the opportunity
of a lifetime - Jeffrey Gram of Cayo Espanto - a private island resort
west of Ambergris Caye. Rosita's first business relationship
with "Jeff" as he is commonly referred, was as his cook and
housekeeper. For the next two years, Rosita would cook and clean for
Jeff and his family during their periodic one-to-two week
vacation/business trips spent on Ambergris Caye. When Jeff purchased
Cayo Espanto, Rosita also came on board at this first-class resort,
preparing meals for the guests of the two "houses" on the caye for the
next year. In order to accommodate the needs of these upscale visitors,
Rosita enhanced her culinary abilities by reading several gourmet
cookbooks that Jeff supplied her with.
As the resort continued to expand, a professional executive chef
was hired and Rosita was given the option to either remain as an
assistant in the kitchen or to work directly with the guests. She opted
for the latter and immediately began to dedicate her time to the daily
needs of the resort's visitors. From that time on, Rosita spared no
detail in ensuring "customer satisfaction" and this soon gained her yet
another promotion to Guest Services Manager.
At this point in time, Cayo Espanto was already recognized as one
of the best resorts in Belize, and Rosita was proud to be a part of
the "team." Again, her unswerving loyalty to Jeff and her all around
good attitude towards work gained her another promotion. In June of
2003, Rosita's hard labor paid off. Today, she as well as her fiancÈ,
Ralf Sturmberg, are both Resident Managers at Cayo Espanto.
Talking about her job at Cayo Espanto, Rosita had the following to
say, "I have been with Cayo Espanto since it was a 'baby,' and as with
all babies it had to be nourished with love and attention. Now
our 'baby' is all grown up and we are proud of it. As proof of this,
Cayo Espanto was recently named one of the world's 'Top Ten Islands to
Rent' on The Travel Channel."
Rosita is also proud to be very involved with her community. Since
the age of 16, she has been an active part of the San Pedro Lions Club.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, listening
to music, visiting her parents in the Cayo District, and simply
watching the sunset. She is the proud mother of three children: Felix
Edwardo (18), Barbara Lynn (12) and Ralf Mikelle Maximus (15-months).
A hardworking woman, Rosita Ayuso is a perfect example of how drive
and determination can open all the right doors in "Our Community."
