Corona del Mar |
This week, The San Pedro Sun was invited to ride in San Pedro's
first elevator, recently opened at Corona del Mar Hotel. Owned by Woody
and Helen Canaday, this resort now prides itself in being the
first "wheelchair friendly" lodging on the island.
According to "Grandpa Woody," the idea of installing an elevator at
their establishment was to facilitate the needs of their
guests. "Sometimes guests have bad knees and to get to the third floor
of our resort can literally be a pain. By installing this elevator, we
hope to alleviate this problem so that our guests can enjoy a carefree
vacation in Paradise," Mr. Canaday told The San Pedro Sun.
The island's first elevator was manufactured in Canada and has a
1,000-pound carrying capacity. The elevator takes clients up 38 feet
from the ground to the third floor. Corona del Mar Hotel also
established a ramp from the lobby to the street side facilitating
wheelchair patrons with easy access to and from their rooms to the
Coconut Drive entrance.
Corona del Mar Hotel was established sixteen years ago and now
boasts a total of 12 rooms and four apartments. Helen and "Grandpa
Woody" Canaday are known as "excellent hosts" who cater to all the
needs of their guests. The San Pedro Sun salutes Corona del Mar Hotel
for adding this new service and for bringing the first elevator to "La
Isla Bonita."
