Directors and volunteers are working vigorously to make this year’s Saga Humane Society fundraiser a roaring success. Details are slowly falling into place for the 2004 Fundraiser Dog Show scheduled for Sunday, August 22nd, at the Lions Den from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

As a reminder, items are needed for the rummage sale that will take place that day. Anyone wishing to donate is asked to bring items in "good, working" or "wash & wear" condition. For more information, please call Eileen at 226-2070.

Loads of wonderful prizes have been gathered in the last few weeks to supply the many exciting raffles and the auction planned for the fundraiser. The Grand Prize this year will be a week’s stay in the Cayman Islands (airfare not included) courtesy of the Vacation Club at Captain Morgan’s Retreat. Tickets will soon be available for sale at the Saga Veterinary Clinic or from any Humane Society member. Saga Humane Society sends special thanks to US Volunteer Drew Branson for his huge support during this part of the fundraiser.

Other businesses pledging their support for the fundraiser are: Amigos del Mar Dive Shop, Banana Beach Resort, BC’s Bar, Belizean Arts, Bowen & Bowen, Caramba Restaurant, Castillo’s Hardware, Coconet, Caribbean Connection, Crazy Canucks, Elbert Greer, El Divino, Fido’s Funsports, Fido’s Restaurant, Isla Bonita Designs, Isla Bonita Family Fitness Center, Island Mini Golf, Jaguar’s Rehab Lounge, Jaguar’s Temple Nite Club, Maruba Jungle Spa Resort, Mata Chica Resort, Pampered Paws, Papi’s Diner, Pauly’s Pizza, Rice & Roll Restaurant, Rico’s Restaurant, SailSports Belize, Sew What, Stained Glass Pub, and TMM Bareboat Vacations.

The deadline for entering dogs in the Dog Show is Monday, August 16th, so get your pets registered now! Dogs will be judged in the following seven categories: Best Costume, Best Trick, Waggiest Tail, Biggest, Smallest, Look-a-like (owner/pet), and Best of Show (audience pick). Those wishing to enter may register at the Saga Humane Society Veterinary Clinic across from Ramon’s Resort or at Pampered Paws on Pescador Drive across from Nellie’s Laundromat.

Funds raised at this event will be used to help care for the many homeless dogs and cats in San Pedro Town. Work continues on the Humane Society’s temporary animal shelter. Four segregation kennels plus a storage bodega have been completed inside the shelter lot. At this time, Saga Humane Society would like to thank Harmouche Center and Mr. Chris Barenfanger for their kind assistance with these improvements. Also, special thanks to Mr. Santino Castillo for his monthly donation of dog food.
