Queen of the Bay contestants with reigning Queen
|
The seven lovely
contestants competing in the Queen of the Bay Pageant visited "La Isla
Bonita" on Tuesday for a photo shoot and lunch, hosted by Mayor Elsa Paz.
Accompanying the contestants was the reigning Queen of the Bay, Shajira
Sajia of Corozal Town. Also joining this bevy of beauties were members of
the coordinating body, chaperons, and a pageant photographer.
The photo shoot was held on the pristine beach at
Ramon’s Village, and pictures from this session will be used to select
this year’s Miss Photogenic. The seven contestants are: Dilcia Trejo from
San Pedro Town, Sherima Usher from Stann Creek, Karen Hyde from Albert
Division in Belize City, Ashanti Sutherland from Corozal, Jasmine
Anderson from Placencia, Georgetta Edwards from Ladyville, and Darina
Rodriguez from Sandhill.
Following their photo shoot, the contestants joined
San Pedro Town Mayor Elsa Paz for a delectable lunch at Calienté
Restaurant, before touring the island via golf carts.
The Queen of the Bay contestants also participated in
other activities leading up to the pageant including: the Little Miss
Carnival Pageant in Belize City, the official sashing ceremonies at the
Government House in Belize City, a courtesy call to the Governor General
of Belize Sir Colville Young, a visit to the Prime Minister of Belize
Said Musa, and a guided tour and luncheon at the Police Academy in
Belmopan.
The ladies have also been very busy rehearsing for the
pageant. This gala event is scheduled for Saturday, September
4th at 7:00 p.m. at
the Belize City Center. Contestants will compete in talent, swimsuit, and
evening gown categories. Each of the ladies must also perform a special
pageant curtsey, participate in the "Patriotic March," and endure a
question and answer session. On Wednesday, September
1st, the contestants
were formally introduced to the public during the official opening
ceremonies of the September Celebrations in Belize City.
Through this medium, the San Pedro Town
Council (sponsor for the enchanting Miss Dilcia Trejo) invites all
residents to support the island’s beauty ambassador by attending the
pageant. An excursion is being planned for this event. Anyone wanting to
accompany them on this trip, may call the SPTC at 226-2198.
The San Pedro Sun
also takes this opportunity to personally wish Miss Dilcia Trejo the best
of luck in this competition. You go girl!
