Next week, "La Isla Bonita" will host a bevy of beautiful women in various functions aimed at raising money for the OnCor Foundation. The OnCor Foundation was recently founded by Miss Belize World 2003, Dalila Vanzie. Miss Vanzie has a personal goal to make a positive difference in Belize while fulfilling her commitment to the Miss World mission. "Beauty with a Purpose" is built on the principle that true beauty is in giving and sharing. In a telephone interview with The San Pedro Sun, Miss Belize World 2003 commented, "Although the beauty pageant is over, there is still good that can be done. I figured that I could continue to have a positive impact in Belize, so OnCor was born."

To date, the Miss World Foundation has raised over $250 million US dollars that have been used to help a variety of international charity organizations such as Operation Hunger, a children's self-help food program, and the President Mandela Fund for Children. The initial mandate of the OnCor Foundation is to raise funds to support the elderly and People Living with HIV/AIDS in Belize. The foundation's motto is "Helping to make life better for someone else."

The OnCor Foundation is planning a 10-day series of charity fund-raising events scheduled from October 21st to October 31st, 2004. The proceeds from this October fundraiser will be used specifically to fund special projects at The Sister Cecilia Home for The Elderly in Belize City, The Octavia Waight Old Folk's Home in Cayo and The Dangriga HIV/AIDS Society, of which Dalila is a proud member. "After visiting Sister Cecilia's I realized that when I get older I would want a good quality of life. The elderly need it. They have worked so hard to build Belize and they deserve an interesting life outside of their health-care facility. Special outings and trips can enrich their lives but require extra funding," she mentioned.

The OnCor Foundation has prepared special events for their OnCor October Fundraiser with everyone's budget in mind. "People need to remember that ALL of the proceeds collected will go to worthy causes. We want to make October a month of giving and having a good time while doing it," said Dalila. After several appearances in Belize City, OnCor will make its way to San Pedro Town on Friday, October 22nd. Mayor Elsa Paz and the San Pedro Town Council will host OnCor on a gala affair aptly named "Noche Isleña." (The San Pedro Sun will have further information in next week's edition.) On Saturday, October 23rd, Captain Morgan's Retreat sponsors "A Night Under The Stars Gala Dinner and Dance." This night of glitz and glamour will include cultural presentations, a fashion show, an auction, and dancing under the moonlight.

All of these fun-filled nights lead up to the grand finale ñ "The Jungle Masquerade Ball," hosted by the OnCor Foundation. Held at the Maruba Resort Jungle Spa, this night promises to be filled with sparkle and serve as both a fundraiser and an opportunity to find out more about the foundation and its future plans. This event will be held under the auspices of the Governor General of Belize Sir Colville Young and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Honorable Godfrey Smith.

The OnCor Foundation is also planning an online auction starting today, October 14th, which will run through the rest of the month. This auction will culminate at "The Jungle Masquerade Ball" and anyone wishing to donate or place a bid on any item may do so by visiting www.dalilavanzie.com/oncor

Five of the most beautiful and talented Miss World 2003 delegates will be the special guests of honor, assisting Miss Vanzie with the fundraising efforts at these events. The international beauty ambassadors include: Miss Canada ñ Nazanin Afshin-Jam, Miss Jamaica ñ Christine Straw, Miss Venezuela ñ Valentina Patruno, Miss Dominican Republic ñ Maria Eugenia Vargas, Miss Switzerland ñ Bianca Sissing with Miss Mexico Erica Honstein unconfirmed as of press time.

The San Pedro Sun congratulates Dalila Vanzie, The OnCor Foundation and the Miss World 2003 delegates for their generous support of our "Jewel of the Caribbean," Belize.
