As we grow closer to the Costa Maya Festival, the preparations for the events are evolving as bigger and better acts and guest personalities are announced. Some events are already in place and the excitement surrounding the “buzz” in town is that the four scheduled days will surely be unforgettable. Here is the latest update on the festivities to take place from August 4th to the 7th.

    The grand event “kicks-off” on Thursday, August 4th. This night will be an evening filled with poise and elegance as it is the night that the gracious Costa Maya Pageant will be held. Telenovela hunk Sebastian Rulli will be co-hosting the event along with TV personality Lilian Villanueva. Miss El Salvador Irma Dimas is the newest contestant to confirm her participation in the pageant.

    Irma Dimas, delegate for the 2005 Miss Universe, has confirmed that she will be a contestant in the pageant. Irma is a student at José Simeón Cañas University (UCA), in San Salvador. Her interests include dancing, practicing all types of sports, reading, and modeling, which at this time has become her main passion. Irma is slim built and stands at 5feet 6 inches, her addition to the list of participants are more than an honor. She will now vie for the title of La Reina de la Costa Maya Pageant against, Miss Costa Rica’s Johanna Fernandez and Miss Honduras’ Kimberly McNab. Still, no word has been heard from other Central American countries including Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, but updates will be published in future editions of The San Pedro Sun.

    In the plans for the spectacular schedule of events for Friday include Mexico’s Cultural presentation by Ballet Folklórico del Municipio de Othon P. Blanco and Grupo Cali from Guatemala. The show ‘de Lalo España known as Doña Margara Francisca in the popular Mexican program Otro Rollo will most likely make an appearance. Next, party and dance the rest of the night with the best Reggaeton band in Central America, all the way from Honduras, ‘Los Legendarios’. On Saturday, August 6th, is the International night – the most anticipated and biggest night of the Costa Maya. Plans are also underway for this excellent night including the probable participation of the San Pedro Dance Company, who will more than likely showcase their best talents. Then, to add some Latin flavor, the crowd will have the chance to see the Kumbia Kings perform live on stage. The group is scheduled to take center stage at around midnight, this group will certainly light a fire under many feet, prompting them to dance into the wee hours. Finally, on Sunday, August 7th, a beach volleyball tournament is in the works, with delightful and upbeat music in the air.

    New additions in sponsorship has been added once again, with the latest sponsors; Belize Yacht Club, Martha’s Hotel, Aqua Marina Suites, Nellie’s Property Management, Corona Del Mar, Mayan Princess, Discovery Expeditions and Old Belize joining as sponsors.

    So, pencil in this date on your calendar and make it a date to remember. The public is advised that the mechanical rides will be functioning everyday for the weekend.
