Inspector Sabal, new Commander-In-Charge
for San Pedro

The San Pedro Sun joins the community of San Pedro in welcoming a new Commander-In-Charge of the San Pedro Police Department. Inspector Joachim Sabal replaces Sergeant Irma Anderson who was recently transferred.

Originally from Dangriga in the Toledo District, Inspector Sabal grew up in San Ignacio, Cayo District. Inspector Sabal brings 23 years of experience to “La Isla Bonita.”

After successfully graduating from the Police Academy in Belmopan, Inspector Sebal first used his training at the Special Unit Branch in the Belize City Police Department. He remained in the city for three years before being transferred to the Prosecution Branch. He enjoyed his position for ten years, after which he was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Branch in Belmopan where he oversaw and investigated the more serious crimes.

Shortly after, Inspector Sebal was promoted to Commanding Officer of the Prosecution Branch of Belize City. Prior to being assigned to the San Pedro Police Department, he had been working at the Dangriga Police Department for 14 months.

Effective July 21st, 2005, Inspector Sabal assumed his new position as Commander-In-Charge, responsible for staff supervision and operations of both San Pedro Town and Caye Caulker.

In an interview with The San Pedro Sun, Inspector Sabal stated that he has met with both Mayor Elsa Paz and Area Representative Manuel Heredia Jr. and understands the concerns of the residents of San Pedro. “Police officers and the community need to work hard together as one to decrease crime. The officers stationed on the island are full of fire, young, and energetic, and all they need is a little guidance, which I plan to do. But, like always it is not always an officer’s job that stops crime it is everyone together,” he ended.

On behalf of everyone in San Pedro, The San Pedro Sun wishes Inspector Sabal a successful and rewarding career on Ambergris Caye.
