A chance to enter the Guiness Book of World Records is just one more reason to attend the San Pedro Jazz Festival at the Rendezvous Restaurant December 17th and 18th. While the main attraction will be world-renowned jazz musicians, the ceviche eating competition could launch a contestant into world-class status.

“We want to provide a lot of fun for everyone,” says event organizer Glen Schwendinger. The main purpose of the festival is to raise money for three worthy causes, said Schwendinger. The causes are: The Ambergris Caye Chamber of Commerce (ACCC) Emergency Fund that helps local children in dire need of critical operations; the construction of a new elementary school in the San Mateo area that will have a classroom specifically for children with special needs; and part of the proceeds will go to dental education coordinated by Dr. Mark Johnson and his wife Joan and the San Pedro Lion’s Club. The Johnsons provide dental care to island residents. “It’s all about the kids,” stressed Schwendinger when asked why he is putting so much effort into planning this event.

Organizing the San Pedro Jazz Festival takes a lot of time and money, according to Schwendinger. He is looking for corporate sponsors to help make the event a huge success. To help, contact Schwendinger at the Rendezvous Restaurant: 226-3426.

Two local artists will be on hand during the jazz-filled weekend. Local Artists Walter Castillo and Island Dog Mike Gvara will be documenting the event with their art. Their work will be auctioned during and after the event. A three-act play will be performed by Natasha and two other performers. These ladies will use body paint to create a huge canvas work of art that will also be sold for the charity event. Multiple Chicken Drops, courtesy of the Pier Lounge, will also be conducted throughout the weekend.

Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to experience the festival. There will be no cover charge, but participants will be encouraged to offer donations. Watch for more information as the event draws near, or visit the website at www.sanpedrojazzfestival.com.
