University of Belize Vice President Dr. Geraldo Flowers presents Tom Vidrine, Ambergris Caye Chamber of Commerce President, a plaque in appreciation for helping to establish a new scholarship at the University.

A new four-year scholarship has been created for a University of Belize student thanks to the generous donation of a San Pedro property owner.

Mr. Geraldo Flowers from the University of Belize told the Ambergris Caye Chamber of Commerce (ACCC) that thanks to reports published by the ACCC meeting minutes and also a story in The San Pedro Sun, the person contacted the University with the generous offer. While the person wants to remain anonymous, Mr. Flowers did say the donor lives in the United Kingdom (UK) and owns property on “La Isla Bonita.” When not living in his property, it is rented and these funds are what goes to the scholarship, stated Flowers.

The value of a four year scholarship which includes tuition fees and books is $18,000. A committee will be established to determine who will receive the scholarship. The donor requested that the student pursue a field in Environment or Natural Resources or Hospitality Management. Applicants can be new, or continuing students.

For information about the scholarship, or if you would like to donate any amount, please contact Mr. Geraldo Flowers at the University of Belize: 822-1000, [email protected]
