Tigersharks dominated in their first home game of the season.

Despite their valiant efforts, Northern Uprising were defeated 79-66.

Welcome sports fans to another fresh serving of The Sun Sports. The semi-pro basketball competition continued over the weekend and our island’s finest, the TigerSharks made all proud with a monster finish and big home win against Corozal’s Northern Uprising.

The sports arena was overflowed with elated fans and sports enthusiasts who came out to cheer and support the home team. At tip off, the TigerSharks had the advantage with the first two buckets. At the other end, Uprising made a couple good plays that got the crowd into the game. This lead would slowly increase which gave the home team a comfortable double digit lead going into the locker room. At halftime, the gate tickets were raffled and two lucky winners got a chance to win great prizes only if they would make a free throw or 3 point shot. Unfortunately, the lucky drawers were unable to make the shot; better practice next time guys. Also on halftime the TigerSharks gave away a basketball to a special kid, Jairo Sandoval, who has been battling a disability, but never stopped him from wanting to play basketball. The team along with little Jairo who held his authentic basketball posed for pictures, whilst the crowd cheered and applauded for them.

In the third quarter, the TigerSharks took a commanding double digit lead and left the Northern Uprising to bite the dust. The game would then continue at the same trend as the Sharks dominated the entire game for a 79-66 victory. Big scorers were Keith Acosta who cashed in a double-double with 20 points, 4 assists and 13 rebounds. Stephen “Muerte” Williams totaled 14 points, 2 assists and 5 boards; Ernest Broaster ended with 14 points, 2 assists and 5 rebounds; Doug Penland cashed in 11 points, 2 assists and 6 boards; and Carlisle “Grabba” Barrow ended with 4 points, 1 assist and 10 boards. An all around team effort was showcased at the end of regulation. Big Up the TigerSharks crew for their hard work and professionalism on the court.

The team gave back to the community by donating half of its gate entrance collections to the San Pedro RC school. The team would like to take the opportunity to thank all the fans that came out and supported their first home game. They are now focused on the finals and bringing home the first place trophy and look forward for your support throughout the season and finals! In other results in the semi-pro competition, the Belize Bank Bulldogs ran past the Suga City Eagles 86-78. The teams next game is also a home game which is scheduled for this weekend against the Suga City Eagles, tip off is at 8:00 p.m. Come out and show love and support for the game of basketball and the San Pedro TigerSharks on Saturday, see you there!
