The summer camp may have ended, but that doesn’t mean these children will soon forget their fantastic adventures with Ambergris Divers! The summer camp attendees were treated to an exciting trip to Hol Chan this past Monday, August 21st.

After several weeks of fun, sports activities and educational trips, the youth summer camp courtesy of Ambergris Divers and San Pedro Town Council concluded on Wednesday. Over a hundred and seventy five children participated in this year’s program.

The purpose of the summer camp was to provide an alternative to unsupervised play, home alone activities and kids being out on the streets. For four weeks, the youths had the opportunity to play basketball and football competitions against each other. Because of the number of attendees, the camp supervisors had their hands full but that did not stop them from having fun as well. The program could not have been maintained without the great help of the supervising team which includes; Bob Gabourel, Abbe Halliday, Belha Roches, Gilbert Spain, Adrian Estel, and Pablo Ico. Coordinator of the camp, Debbie Spain explains that the camp has been a positive reinforcement for the kids of San Pedro and it helps them to stay out of trouble.

As part of their continued support for youth activity, the main sponsors provided individual jerseys, water and snacks for the participants. During the course, kids enjoyed fun in the sun whilst playing sports, and as an added bonus courtesy of Ambergris Divers, a trip to the famous Hol Chan Marine Reserve. For most of them, this was the first time they visited the site and for some who had done it through last year’s camp, the trip was just as exciting. On their last day of camp, the kids were split up into several groups and spent the evening challenging each other in friendly matches of basketball and football.

On behalf of the program’s officials and participants special thanks to Ambergris Divers, San Pedro Town Council, Island Adventures, Scotia Bank, Captain Morgan’s Retreat, Pelican Reef Resort, and Roberto Canul for their continued support of the youth program.
