Children got to hold and cuddle with the SAGA animals during the open day.

Providing awesome beats was Dennis Wolfe and company.

Also part of the fundraising was a silent auction.

This past Saturday, September 23rd, the Saga Humane Society held an Open Day/Adoption Drive. The event was a huge success thanks to all of those who came to enjoy a day of barbeque, fun, games, and music.

The open day was a way for Saga to introduce themselves to those members of the community who may not know who they are or what they do here on Ambergris Caye.

The open day was also planned as an adoption drive and fundraiser in preparation for the new shelter and cattery that Saga is planning to build later this month. The new shelter will provide safe temporary homes for stray, abandoned, and uncared for animals. The Saga Humane Society was able to raise over $4,100.00 on Saturday’s event. The main goals of the Saga Humane Society are: to educate the public on the humane treatment of all animals and to provide affordable preventative care to members of the community, along with caring for and finding homes for the stray or abandoned animals of the island.

The day could not be possible without the generous help and cooperation of many volunteers including; Sharon Boyd, Colette Kase, Maya Papovic, Cindy and Renita of Changes in Latitudes and the loyal and hardworking team of “Pawvengers” – the under 18 spirit and muscle of the Saga Humane Society. Saga would also like to give a special thanks to The Palms, Pedro’s Inn, Bowen and Bowen, Super Buy, Island Supermarket, Lino’s Meats, Pan Dulce, The Greenhouse, and Josie’s Barbecue whose help and support provided all we needed for a successful barbecue. A big thanks to Dennis Wolfe and his band who supplied music for an all afternoon potlicker jig!

Saga would also like to give a big thank you to all of the local businesses who donated prizes for the silent auction including: Hammocks and More, Sausage Factory, SurfGuru, TABU, Seaduced, SailSports Belize, Pier Lounge, Coconets, Premium Wines, Costa Maya Beach Cabanas, Graniel’s, Pedro’s Sports Bar and Inn, Island Dog Art, Wet Willies Cantina and Bar, Ambergris Jade, Island Perk, Mata Rocks, Rico’s Restaurant, DandE’s Frozen Custard, Victoria House, Fido’s Sandbar, Tech Transylvania Video, Sol Spa, Island Ice Cream, Tropical Touch, Orange Gift Gallery, Sew What!, Casa Picasso, Portofino, Caye Coffee, Tropical Touch, SpinDrift Hotel, Coconuts Hotel and Casino, www.AmbergrisCaye.com, Emerald Mine, First Caribbean Marketing, Protech Dive Shop, Vidal Castillo, Blue Water Grill, Reef Radio, and Pampered Paws.

Oreo, our little black and white kitten was the only member of the four legged Saga team that got a new home on Saturday, so please don’t forget to come by and volunteer to foster, or better yet, adopt a new pet! Saga and its cuddly friends hope to see you soon at the next Saga event – and thanks again to everyone who came along or otherwise supported the open day!
