Lions honor our seniors and children

The Belize Bank staff was on hand to help spread some Christmas joy (and show off some smooth dance moves!)

Rompe Raja's lively music was key to the banquet, and the dance floor was never empty!

Children eagerly accept treats that are handed out during the annual Lion’s Christmas Caroling.

Spreading Christmas cheer at this time of year for the senior citizens and the young at heart is not just the thing to do, it’s become a tradition for the San Pedro Lion’s Club. That practice was repeated on Friday, December 22nd, when seniors were treated to a special traditional Christmas dinner and party at the Lion’s Den.

This annual event runs in conjunction with similar activities carried out by Lions Club all over the world, it recognizes the contributions that seniors make in their communities. The den was all dressed up with festive streamers, twinkling lights and upon arrival, 31 guests were greeted joyfully and shown to their seats. Having made themselves comfortable, they were offered some liquid refreshment, and the mood was set! Everyone had been provided with a drink, or two (not all alcoholic) then began to bring on the festive fare. A splendid turkey dinner prepared especially for them to enjoy. Many took the time to thank the Lion members for their continued patronage towards them. After this magnificent feast, everybody settled down for the entertainment. The Rompe Raja band was on hand to set the mood right. With cheery music flowing through the air it’s no wonder it brought out several happy feet to the dance floor. Young at heart, the senior citizens surely enjoyed every minute of it. As per usual, each participant received a gift that was donated by the friends, club members and other local businesses.

The senior citizens party was yet another joyous occasion and goes down in the history books of the Lions as another success story.

In addition to this dinner, the Lion’s club also spread the joy of Christmas by going around the streets of San Pedro for a night of caroling. Along with the ever-popular Rompe Raja band, Lion members held a parade whilst singing Christmas carols and handing out red apples and candy treats to those that stood on the sidelines.

The San Pedro Lions Club would like to thank all the entertainers for making the evening a success and a special thank you to our special guests for their participation. The San Pedro Lions Club wishes everyone a Prosperous New Year 2007!

‘Tis the season - for dancing!

Barbara’s Dance Group (pictured) and the San Pedro Dance Company shared Christmas joy through music and dance.

On Friday, December 21st the old football field came alive once again and this time to host Barbara’s Dance Group’s Christmas special. The Dance group took the stage by storm to present their annual show which proved an incredible night of dances, performed by all categories in the company. They performed to popular Christmas selections as well as songs heard over the radio and seen on TV. A highlight of the night was a “Jingle bell rock” rendition which proved to be the crowd’s favorite. With a little mix of some salsa moves and belly dancing, the group showcased great flexibility and knowledge for what they do. At the end of the night, the group amazed everyone with their musical style and fantastic musical abilities. The funds raised will be used to purchase costumes, outfits and other necessities needed for the group.

Barbara’s dance group would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who assisted to the shows success. Special thanks go to Coral Cable Vision, San Pedro Town Council, Body Wear, Caye Supplies, Captain, Wings, Wifi Island, Reef Radio, Tropic Air, Island secrets.

On Saturday night, the San Pedro Dance Company presented its annual Christmas Extravaganza. With spectacular moves, glitter and Christmas songs, girls and guys did their very best to put on an amazing show. Master of Ceremonies for the night was Reef Radio’s Eiden Salazar.

The attendance was superb and the festivity opened with a wonderful re-enactment of the birth of baby Jesus. All in robes and outfits, it was a great way to jumpstart the show by honoring baby Jesus. A most exquisite presentation was made by an invited guest who played a live rendition of a song on her cello. Then, the company dancers took the stage to move, groove and showcase their dancing skills. With several Christmas and modern dance numbers, the presenters gave the audience nothing but true entertainment.

Invited guests, Ilan Nuñez and Samantha Murphy took the stage next, and the duo presented a fantastic duet that brought the crowd to their feet. Next, the senior dancers made a presentation along with a new set of male dancers. The combination of both, made for an exceptional dance number that received many thunderous applauses from the audience. The participation of Jamie from the National Dance Company of Belize was very helpful for the dancers as he assisted with the choreography.

At the end of the magical night, the dance company performed their hearts out to make a great show. With the Christmas spirit in the air, the night proved a cheery one for the congregate. On behalf of the San Pedro Dance Company, many thanks go out to the people and businesses who made it possible. Thanks to Rosita Baltazar, Ilan Nuñez, Samantha Murphy, The San Pedro Sun, Ambergris Today, Eiden Salazar, Coral Cable Vision and anyone who assisted to make their Christmas extravaganza a huge hit once again.
