The cover for the Holy Cross calendar features the beautiful faces of students and dedicated teachers at the school grounds.

"Local officials estimate that over 120 children in San Pedro were unable to enroll in school for the 2004-5 year due to lack of classroom space…It is our hope and prayer that every child in the community will be able to receive a first class education with the addition of Holy Cross Anglican School. Classes for Infant I, Infant II and Standard I started September 4th, 2006 in three temporary buildings. By mid-November, enrollment had reached 100 students and the fourth teacher was hired. On December 6th, two additional classrooms were blessed and dedicated and Holy Cross became the only school on the Island offering a Special Education Center.

Future plans are for building a Chapel, eight additional classrooms, a library/computer room, a kitchen and cafeteria, school office and principal’s house…” (Excerpt from Holy Cross Calendar)

Spearheaded by Francis and Vernon Wilson, whose vision was to supply a proper education to schoolchildren living in the northern sections of San Pedro and those at an economic disadvantage, Holy Cross has seen fruition in an amazingly short time. Current enrollment is now 135 students. Already their ongoing effort to add classrooms is proving quite successful, plus they provide a healthy lunch program free of charge for their students, many of whom would not have proper, nutritious meals otherwise. In addition, students receive their uniforms, textbooks and school supplies at no charge if they are unable to pay.

Donations from churches, community groups and individuals in the US, Canada and England have so far funded the building projects, free breakfast and lunch program and the subsidy for textbooks, uniforms and school supplies.

Now, there are 2007 calendars for sale to raise more funds to continue supplying these children with the very best well-rounded education possible. These calendars will go a long way in providing assistance to a school that is giving so much to children and the community at large. Though we’ll miss having a Calendar Girls 2007 edition, have no fear! Envisioned by Marilyn Marx, dubbed ‘Mother’ of the project, these calendars are out thanks to the wonderful help of Cullen Walker, Francis Wilson and Marie Carroll at Gecko Graphics (who generously donated her design expertise).

This beautiful calendar featuring and benefiting the children of Holy Cross, is just as wonderful, and goes for a great cause. Aptly named “Faces of the Future”, the calendar showcases the beautiful faces of our Belizean children attending Holy Cross. At only BZ$20 each, they make a great investment and wonderful opportunity to donate to a great cause. Be sure to dig deep and buy several copies for your home, office and friends as well!

Calendars are available at Gecko Graphics, Casa Pan Dulce Bakery, Pier Lounge, Aquarius Styling Salon and Holy Cross Anglican School. If you would like to have some mailed out to you, there is an extra $5 fee for shipping and handling. Mrs. Wilson extends her thanks in advance to “all those in the community who will support this project” and would like to thank the children of Holy Cross for being so wonderful, and making all these efforts so worthwhile!
