Another San Pedro home was destroyed and a family business was lost to a devastating fire this past weekend. According to reports, at approximately 5:27 p.m. on Saturday June 16th, a San Pedro police officer received information on a house that was burning. This he relayed to the San Pedro Fire Department. Fifteen minutes after that call, the fire trucks arrived at the scene which was in the Escalante Subdivision on the south of the island. Upon reaching said destination, they saw a woodwork workshop totally engulfed in flames. Said structure belonged to 31-year-old manager, Eddie Ancona.

Fire personnel aboard fire trucks units number five and six, who were at the scene, fought desperately to extinguish the blaze using water from the sea. Assisted by residents of the area, a bucket brigade was formed. However, five wooden structures consisting of the main workshop which has a total size of 20 x 40, a smaller workshop, measuring 20 x 30, a 12 x 12 home, a work shed measuring 38 x 38 and a bodega, 7 x 12, were completely engulfed and destroyed by the fire. The cause of the fire is still unknown and the investigation has not yet been concluded, but police are checking out reports of power outages and a lamppost catching fire before any concrete determination is made.

According to fire department, the fire initiated from the main workshop where it worked its way to the other structures that were in close range. No one was hurt or injured during this incident. The house was valued at $700,000 and insured under RFG Insurance Company for an undisclosed amount.
