The crowd went outrageously wild when Dejon (Karaoke King 07’) took to the stage for a fantastic rendition of Elvis Presley’s “Hound Dog.”

All dressed up with her Mariachi outfit, Franchesca Awe personified Paulina Rubio’s “Ultimo Adios”.

From Left to right…Wilber Rivero (3rd place, won $500), Elizabeth Garbutt (2nd place, $1,000) and Dejon Tucker (Karaoke King, $2,000).

There wasn’t an empty seat at the Jaguars Temple Nightclub last week Wednesday night as The Reef Radio’s tele-radio Karaoke Competition culminated with a bang. By most accounts it may have been the best single show in three years of Reef Radio’s Karaoke competition history: nine finalists, eighteen songs, and numerous wardrobe changes produced almost two hours of excitement that culminated in the selection of Reef Radio’s Tele-Karaoke 2007 champion, Dejon Tucker. The competition is now over and a more dramatic finish could not have been scripted in Hollywood.

Viewers who tuned in or caught the action in person at the Jaguars Nightclub were treated to another session of intense Karaoke competition. The stage was truly set for the contestants, who performed in front of a rapt, packed audience, many of whom had followed the proceedings in person avidly, from the preliminaries to the finals. Hosts Eiden Salazar and David Marin were on hand to introduce and announce the show’s winners.

The contestants were a strong cast who had impressed the judges in previous rounds but on Wednesday night the game soared to loftier heights in the competition. Some highlights of the evening include Elizabeth Garbutt’s rendition of Rihanna’s “Unfaithful” and current popular hit single “Umbrella” as her second round choice. Pandemonium broke out amongst the fans as Host Salazar announced the next contestant to the stage, Dejon Tucker, decked out in his suit and giving the crowd an electrifying performance of Otis Redding’s “These arms are mine” and an imitation of Elvis Presley’s’ “Hound Dog”. At that point, it was clearly evident as to whom the crowd was rooting for the most. Although the judging was extremely close, everyone would agree that Tucker was the best singer on the microphone. The top three winners include: Dejon Tucker who placed first and won $2,000 in cash, Elizabeth Garbutt took second place and $1,000 in cash whilst Wilbur Rivero took third and $500 in cash. The nine finalists were extraordinarily talented, and they all presented on excellent performances. As an added bonus, Claudia Haylock who was last year’s Karaoke Champ took to the stage for a phenomenal rendition of Celine Dion’s “Think twice” and “Gloria,” last year’s winning song, as the opening act.

Thursday night proved to be another runway success. The third annual Tele-Radio Karaoke Showdown proved that the event keeps getting better every year. If you think you have what it takes to sing karaoke, then come out and show your skills next year.
