Often times reaching to either the extreme north or south of the island by land is a challenge for the Police Department in San Pedro Ambergris Caye, but that is now something of the past. On Sunday, March 2nd, the San Pedro Police Department received yet another boat that will assist the Department to reach areas that are not easily accessible by land. Alexandra Nicholson and her husband Dave Hauptli from Maruba Resort handed over the fiberglass coated skiff and engine valued at $17,000 to the San Pedro Police Department. Nicholson told The Sun that the donation will help the Police Department make San Pedro a safer place for both tourists and local residents. On hand to receive the donation on behalf of the Police Department was Corporal Wayne McCulloch who in accepting the donation, stated that the boat will go a long way in helping them fight crime on extreme ends of the island, where it is difficult to access by land. He said that they will also use the boat to coordinate joint police, immigration, customs and BDF patrols on sea. In closing McCulloch extended gratitude on behalf of the department was grateful for the much needed donation and encouraged the business community to continue assisting the police in fighting crime on the island. On hand to witness the handing over was Area Representative Manuel Heredia. This is the second boat that the police department has received in less than a month; the first being a donation from the San Pedro Business Association.
