Island Football teams draw at home and on the road

The Belize Bank Super League Football competition continued over the weekend and saw the San Pedro Islanders FC traveling west. Hosting the Islanders were Cayo South United at Roaring Creek Village Football field. Under the hot sun, the Islanders stepped on visiting turf and by minute 28 in the first half team player Emory Nuñez shocked the net making it a one nil lead over the Cayo team. The Islanders continued to have numerous opportunities but could not capitalize on the plays. A defensive error in the last six minutes of regular time (86th minute) Earl Peter from Cayo South United scored the equalizer. The final score; San Pedro Islanders FC 1, Cayo South United 1.

         In the Belize Premier Football League (BPFL), the San Pedro Dolphins hosted their first game on Sunday against visitors Cayo’s Hankook Verdes. The game started at 2:30 p.m. at the Ambergris Stadium and by minute 18 in the regular time, Michael Salazar put the visiting team in a one zip lead. Six minutes into the second half, in minute 51 in the regular time, Daniel Jimenez scored a second goal for the visiting Verdes. A minute later, in minute 52 in the regular time, Tonbra Akpobodor scored for the hosting Dolphins team reviving hopes for the home team. It was not until the last minute of the game, in the 89th minutes of the regular time that Olvin Serrano scored the equalizer for the Dolphins team. The final score: San Pedro Dolphin 2, Hankook Verdes 2.

        Come and support your two home teams this weekend as Islander FC will face off Valley Renaissance of Pomona Village in an out of Zone game on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at the Ambergris Stadium. With one point, San Pedro Dolphins will host Wagiya from the South on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Ambergris Stadium.
