The British contingency enjoyed a night out getting to know their ambassador.

The British High Commissioner to Belize, His Excellency Pat Ashworth and his wife Pauline Ashworth were in San Pedro Town over the weekend. The purpose of the visit was to meet with the British Expatriates and to get familiarized with the island. The event took place on Saturday, October 10th at the Playa Lounge.

In an interview with The San Pedro Sun, H.E. Ashworth stated that he took the opportunity to listen to the concerns and address some issues brought up during his visit. “It is very important that we keep a close eye on the British community and keep in constant communication,” stated H. E. Ashworth. The diplomat explained that it is crucial to keep in contact with British nationals and to explain how their tax monies are being spent back home. H. E. Ashworth stated that by working with the British community in Belize, it strengthens ties between both countries.

Over 50 people attended the gathering where they hosted the diplomat to dinner and an after party. During the event, H. E. Ashworth gave out prizes for the raffles of various items.

Ambergris Caye has one of the biggest British communities in the country. Since assuming responsibilities in Belize, it is the first time the diplomat visited San Pedro and promised the community that he will be frequenting the island more often. H.E. Ashworth and his wife were escorted by James Janmohammed, the British Warden for San Pedro and Caye Caulker, and his wife Jamila Janmohammed.

    H. E. Ashworth assumed the position of British High Commission to Belize three months ago. Previously, he served as the Head of Liaison at Whitehall and prior to that, he was the Deputy Consul General in Sao Paulo and the Deputy Director of Trade for Brazil.
