Ambergris Caye’s radio station, the Reef Radio, joined forces with the Red Cross and citizens of San Pedro in a radio-thon, on January 15th, aimed at gathering financial assistance for the people in Haiti.
As always, the citizens of Ambergris Caye got together and pledged a total of $50,203. Money which was delivered to Red Cross members has been deposited into the Belize Red Cross fund that will disburse the monies for the betterment of those devastated by the earthquake in Haiti.
Owner of the radio station Eiden Salazar commented that this was an effort organized by the residents of the community in collaboration with the Red Cross. “San Pedro residents came to me and asked whether the radio was organizing a fundraiser for Haiti victims. Elito Arceo was one of the first to join in the effort and assist The Red Cross in gathering as much financial assistance as we could. As short notice as it was, islanders did get together and money was raised. We want to thank everyone who pledged every little bit. To the students especially who brought their snack money to help. We thank the island for always being generous and helping those most in need,” he commented.
If you have not paid your pledge kindly contact the local members of the Red Cross or contact the Reef Radio at 226-4054
