The trophy!

San Pedro High School students have excelled in many fields both educational and in sports. This week, SPHS students proudly paraded through town in celebration of yet another victory, another accomplishment and another accolade – 2010 Math Olympiad Champions. Held on Wednesday at the University of Belize Gymnasium in Belmopan, the Olympiad had the participation of six regional finalists which included Muffles College (North A), Linda Vista High School (North B), San Pedro High School (Central A), St. John’s College (Central B), Belize Christian Academy (West), and Stann Creek Ecumenical College (South). The day and the game was tightly contested and at the end with a total of 5,000 points was San Pedro High School. The SPHS students who participated in the Senior division were: Jing Han (4C) and Vicky Balam (4C), their alternates were Lucio Nuñez (3A) and Cindy Novelo (3C). In the Junior division the two participants were: Emily Gomez (2A) and Ismael Kay (2E) and their alternates were Walter Tut (1C) and Yanni Garcia (2G). The competition which is sponsored by the Social Security Board is a step taken by the organization to remain committed to participating in and spearheading good-will programs which impact positively on national development. Coming in second place was the Belize Christian Academy with 4,000 points while third was Muffles College with a total of 4,400 points. Congratulations to San Pedro High School for a job well done and kudos to the coaches, teachers and parents who assisted in the students’ participation (Mathematics teacher, Mrs. Iris Perez, as well as other volunteers who helped in training these students, Mr. Ricardo Sedacy, Gary Tabony and Shakira Coleman).
