The annual Mother’s Day celebration held by the San Pedro Town Council is most certainly an event mother’s look forward to. What’s not to love? Great entertainment, a gourmet meal, drinks, a night of entertainment, raffles and prize giveaways, plus fun and laughter. This year proved no different, as the council, along with volunteers treated hundreds of mothers to a fabulous Mother’s Day Extravaganza. The old football field (Sacachispas) was the venue, and the stage was lit for one fabulous night of laughter and enjoyment.
Each mother received a souvenir and a raffle ticket upon entering the gate, and those tickets were a chance to win one of several prizes given away through the night. Master of Ceremonies, Eiden Salazar of The Reef Radio was on hand to lead the show. There were great musical performances leading up to the main event, and the mothers’ anticipation was high as they awaited the arrival of Angel Velasquez “El Tauch” on stage.
But first, dinner and raffles; the lucky ticket holders got to win amazing prizes donated by the local business community, and smiling mothers eagerly picked up their prizes. A fabulous dinner and dessert was served to the mothers to enjoy. And finally, the anticipated moment: El Tauch got on stage. Accompanied by his troupe of performers, he kicked off what would be a night of irreverent and hilarious comedy. Throughout their routines, they kept the audience laughing, singing along, and they even got off stage to join some mothers in the crowd.
During intermission, the announcement of the 2010 Mother of the Year was made. Mrs. Leonor Trejo, mother of Diana Nuñez, Addy Martinez, Hector Trejo and Griselda Coba, was named the number one mother. She was presented with a crown and scepter, a sash, a beautiful bouquet of flowers, a crystal from Gecko Graphics and $500 cash from the San Pedro Town Council.
After a quick photo op, it was time for more comedy, music and antics on stage with El Tauch. Hailing from Merida, Yucatan in Mexico, El Tauch and company certainly provided a wonderful night for all mothers. Performances included acts from Pimpinela, Gloria Trevi, Paquita la del Barrio, Jim Carrey’s The Mask and for the grand finale, a comedic version of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. All in all, it was a great success as mothers were smiling from start to finish.
