Dolphins Stumble!!

by Santiago Acosta

This is just a stumble! We did not capitalize on our opportunities and were too confident of the rival we had in front of us! That was the consensus of the Dolphin players after Acros beat us with a score that really hurts, 1 goal to nil. This might have been a painful loss at the right time since it came at the very start of the second round and it should serve as a jolt to all the team that they are good, but should never be too confident and also to realize that when opportunities present themselves - then you kill!!, metaphorically speaking.

It was a beautiful day for football and the faithful were ready for this one when at 4:05 p.m. the referee blew his whistle to start the game. The Dolphins looked totally out of form for the first half. Their passes were off the mark and Acros was winning all the fifty fifty plays since the San Pedro players were getting there just a second too late. Nothing seemed to go right as was shown in a few sporadic advances when they managed to reach the opposing red zone but failed to capitalize when they had the clear option to score. Francisco Rivero had the clearest option when in the sixth minute of the first half he got a beautiful pass from the streaking Landy to the center of the goal area, and instead of securing it by ramming it hard to the goal, he simply tried to slap it in and missed the goal totally. Bonzo, had one also when he found himself alone on the left flank, but instead of advancing it a little bit more since he was alone, took the shot from a very difficult angle and it went wide. Landy, John, Oscar and Lawrence all had their chances but all to nought.

They say that if you do not capitalize when given the break it may come back to haunt you and that is exactly what happened. In the 26th minute of the first half the ball was launched to the mid area of the San Pedro side and the defender instead of clearing as defensive players are taught to, tried to nonchalantly pass it to the forward line and on the rebound #12 took hold of the ball and penetrated to the extreme left flank of the goal, beat the defender and sent a back pass that eluded everyone and landed at the feet of #10 who was not being marked by anyone and with the goal all to himself and from point blank range, unleashed on the ball to make the score one goal to nil in favor of Acros.

This score held up until the end and now the Dolphins have suffered their first loss of the season. The players and the management however are confident that this is a wake up call and that the team will perform much better on Sunday when Verdes comes to play at the Ambergris Stadium and the fans might be lucky enough to see the reincorporated Oliver Hendricks play his first game since he went on rehabilitation after his injury.

So fans let's show our boys that we believe in them also and that we are there for them when they win but also when they lose. Let's come out in force on Sunday and route them on to victory again!!
