Lunch on Children's Day
|
On Friday morning, March 6th, 1998, school children across the
country celebrated Children's Day. Each district and school celebrates
the day in their own unique way; most schools celebrate with a party or
a Sports Day. The San Pedro R.C. School celebrated Children's Day by
parading through the main streets of San Pedro dressed in festive
T-shirts. The children paraded with music provided by Lichie's Box
(sponsored by the San Pedro Town Board), sang and waved colorful
balloons.
After parading the children were transported to the Ambergris
Football Stadium where a Sports Day was held. Children were separated
into (groups) houses - Lobster, Dolphin, Manta Ray and Man-o-war.
Members of each house competed in different events such as the lime and
spoon, and needle and thread race. At the end of the day the scores were
tabulated and the winner was announced. The winner of the Sport Day was
the Man-o-war house, followed by the Dolphin, Lobster and Manta Ray
houses.
