 
A large crowd gathered at the San Pedro Holiday Hotel on Saturday, November 7th, 1998 for the Bar's Costume Carnival. The Costume Carnival was organized to give San Pedranos a treat of the Halloween that was deeply missed this year due to Hurricane Mitch. The night was very much a stress reliever for many San Pedranos. The week before was a labor intensive one, as the residents worked in unison to clean up the island and restore businesses. Holiday's Bar, deck and beach area were packed with people who came to see all those in costume who were participating in the contest. The judging of the costumes commenced at 10:00 p.m. and the judges were Elsa Paz, George Varela, and Dorian Nuñez. They had a tough decision judging among 15 entries. The contestants paraded and danced in front of the judges until about 12:30 a.m. When the winners and their prizes were announced, they were: 1st Prize/Most Creative - Nydia Riverol (Fantasma Mitch) - round trip ticket to the U.S. compliments of Continental Airlines. 2 nd Prize/Most Scariest - Basilio Pou (Voodoo Doll) - accommodations for two at Ramon's Village, dinner for two at Victoria House and all-day golf cart rental courtesy of Bushmaster Rentals.Funniest Costume - Santiago Vasquez (Vomiting Cow) - round trip ticket to anywhere Tropic Air flies and $100 gift certificate courtesy of Brodies. Most Elegant - Flor Delgado (Morticia) - haircut/style/manicure courtesy of Hair Designs in Belize City and dinner for two at Elvi's Kitchen. Best Group - Fiona Elliott, Perlita Nuñez, Kathy Marin & Mireya Urbina (Hell's Angels) - four cases of Belikin, courtesy of San Pedro Distributors and one bottle of tequila courtesy of Concession & Bar Supplies in Belize City. Judge's Favorite 1 st Prize - Kay Scott (Red Riding Hood Wolf) - Dinner for two at Mickey's Place.Judge's Favorite 2 nd Prize - Robin Feanny (Jason) - glass bottom boat trip for two courtesy of Reef Seeker.The crowd enjoyed live entertainment from Wil and the Caribbean Shells and the great ambience of Holiday Hotel. After the winners were announced the music and fun continued until four in the morning.
