It is with great admiration that people look up to individuals who have slowly began and have been successful in their business. What is more unique is that some of these individuals have done this without destroying or causing harm to others, but have been successful because of their friendliness, honesty and great character. This is the case of this week's personality of Our Community - Mrs. Nancy Nuñez Pech.
Nancy Nuñez was born in San Pedro on November 18th to Velia and Apolonio (Polo) Nuñez. Like the rest of her family, that consists of one sister Dulce and a brother Nadir, she attended San Pedro Roman Catholic School. As was customary in the past, furthering an education was reserved for the males only and Nancy had to venture into another area, rather than continue her education. She was first employed as a ticket agent for Maya Airways. Her next job was at Paradise Resort Hotel. There she held various positions in housekeeping and in the restaurant. Her eagerness to do her best soon gained her employer's confidence in her. Word of her great character and friendly disposition soon got around and Nancy was offered a domestic job in Houston. After careful thought, she agreed to the offer and left her home town to experience life in the fast lane.
Unfortunately, after only a short three-month period in the U.S., Nancy received the sad news that her mother had fallen ill and she quickly returned to San Pedro to be by her side. Since her return, Nancy devoted most of her time taking care of her mother until her final days.
Once again, she had to start a new episode of her life. She met future spouse Ricardo Pech and they were married shortly after in 1985. Nancy is the mother of three children, Shawn (19), Ricardo (13) and Velia (12). Just one year after her marriage, Nancy and Ricardo saw the need for fresh vegetables on the island and decided to open what would become Nancy's fruit shop. This business turned out to be a big success for the Pech's since a wide assortment of fruits and vegetables sought by businesses were made available weekly. Nancy's fruit shop was in operation for six successful years, when they decided to expand the fruit shop to include an assortment of groceries. Nancy found this necessary for the growing needs of her customers. Today, Nancy's store boasts a variety of fruits and vegetables and almost all your grocery needs at very affordable prizes. What is most attractive is the wonderful service from the staff at Nancy's store. Nancy, Ricardo, Dulce and Irvin are happy to make your shopping needs more easy and affordable.
The amiable nature she has displayed since her childhood days is Nancy's gift. She is a strong believer in education and having being deprived of one, has encouraged her to support her children and anyone interested in getting one. She is very community oriented and a strong supporter of the many organizations in San Pedro. Nancy displays that very important quality unique to Sanpedranos; friendliness. Our Community is proud of this wonderful and cheerful person who with strong will-power and determination has successfully joined the team of business people of our Isla Bonita.
