San Pedro has been preparing to
enter the Year 2000 in style and to make sure the celebrations are a hit,
the San Pedro Town Board and the Y2KCC have put together a series of
interesting events at Central Park leading up to the New Year.
Lydia's Institute of Fine Education (LIFE) was given
the privilege of opening the celebration. On December
24th the school
presented a short but very sweet program that included the traditional
"Birth of Jesus" scene played by the students, teachers and parents of
LIFE. The Beginner's class stole the show with a song and dance rendition
of "You better watch out" and other classes performed various Christmas
dances.
On December
26 th, Barbara's Dance
Group gave a wonderful performance of the Nutcracker Suite followed by
presentations of their latest dances. The show was well-prepared and full
of marvelous dance renditions complimented by elaborate costumes. The
celebrations continued on the
27th as one of
Belize's number one steel bands - The Pantempers entertained with their
melodious sounds of steel instruments. This was a wonderful treat since
San Pedro seldom gets to host these types of bands. The Pantempers'
repertoire consisted of Christmas and traditional Caribbean songs.
Another wonderful show was witnessed on December
28 th, as the Belize
Dance Company exhibited only the best of Belizean folklore and modern
dances. The Belize Dance Company is Belize's top dance group and has
gained international recognition performing in the USA, Europe and many
Central American countries. Their performance during the Millennium
Celebrations was lively entertainment for the spectators.
The extravaganza continued on December
29th with recitals
from the students of San Pedro High School and the High School Choir. In
addition the San Pedro Town Board recognized outstanding citizens of the
community (deceased or living) with a special award. All of this will be
followed by a Millennium Dance Presentation by the San Pedro Dance
Company this evening. Everyone is invited to Central Park on New Year's
Eve. The program promises to be a memorable one. On this night, past Miss
San Pedro Queens, musicians, dance groups and Mothers of the Year will
reunite in a special presentation. Party favors will be available during
the countdown. Join the crowd and be a part of the last hours, minutes
and seconds of the Millennium!
