Ninth Annual Bill Fishing Tournament held







The Bad Boy had a wahoo of a day

The Belize Game Fishing Association held their 9th Annual Bill Fishing Tournament on February 19th, 20th and 21st. The sponsors for this year's tournament were Esso Standard Oil and Radisson Fort George Hotel. The tournament is held every weekend following Valentine's week.

A briefing night was held on Wednesday, February 17th at the Radisson Fort George Hotel. Tournament rules and regulations were explained to the participants. Twenty boats and over 120 anglers participated this year. The winner for the heaviest Blue Marlin (250 lbs.) was won by Pie Marin. The heaviest White Marlin (79 lbs.) was won by Tommy Bowman aboard Carib Lady. The heaviest Sailfish (44 ½ lbs.) was won by Shirley Taylor of Sea Boots and the heaviest Non-Bill Fish (44 lbs. Wahoo) was won by William Bowman. Only first prize is awarded in these categories. The San Pedro Sun was present at the arrival to San Pedro of the Bad Boy who brought in the second biggest wahoo weighing 41lbs. The anglers of the Bad Boy were San Pedro's Chuck Wunsch, Rosendo "Papi" Graniel, Omero Graniel, Cal Koster and Kevin Koster.

The International Bill Fishing Tournament has attracted many international anglers and keeps getting bigger and better every year. Congratulations to all the organizers, sponsors and anglers.
