Thanks, Guys!! Your info is much appreciated! Could you also keep me posted on the progress?? I was beginning to wonder why I couldn't get a hold of anyone I know down there! I'll be there on Thurs. It's been 9 weeks since my last visit, but it feels more like 6 months! 5 more days, woohoo!

are the phone lines up yet? how long have they been down?

Cell phones are working again this Saturday morning. Land line phones have been out since Friday.
Good thing we have satellite internet & cold Belikin at the Corozal Bay Inn.

No 911 service in the whole country. It's a disgrace. Whoever organized this crap needs to be shot.

Police detained BTL employee Dale Trujeque at the Queen st station. People have been driving by the police station honking their horns in support of the action. Ch 7 will have a news special on tv tonight with more info. I flew out to San Pedro to plug into satelitte email to get some work done. Not sure when the system will be up again. I hear they'll be no shows at the meeting on Monday so they can't make a quorum (Pedro, did I spell that right?).

No cell phones again on Ambergris Caye at least...wonder if it's the whole country again?

When the cell phones were up earlier today (Saturday) I called directory assistance several times and spoke to a different person each time...they all denied knowledge of a strike, they were all in the dark as to how long the outage would be for and, of course, they had no explanation as to why there were mass walk-outs on Friday 15th April, the first day of the outage.

It is simply beyond me how anyone can strike and then deny it!

When I drove past the main BTL offices in Belize City on Friday morning I asked BTL employees how long the action would last for...one or two shouted "Power to the People" and one even shouted "All year!" How disgusting...sometimes greed DOESN'T work. And make no mistake about it, this is ALL about greed, not pay or benefits or welfare or job security.

Still no 911 service. Pretty soon the bad guys are going to figure this out. Pity the good folk of Belize City.

so is internet out at the internet cafes or not?

Internet that is from BTL is out.
Internet that is from another source, using independent dishes is on.
