THE RESTAURANT SCENE IN THE TWIN TOWNS CHANGES !
Restaurants come and go in the twin towns. Over the last three years, quite a few restaurants have folded. But there have been some replacements as new proprietors and gambling entrepreneurs try their luck. On the local scene, HANNA'S RESTAURANT has moved into number one tourist spot. Full every night and with a menu of excellence and a wide range of prices, the place can be seen jumping every night during this tourist high season. You can recognize success when the tourists pile in there with waiting lines. Eva's Restaurant and Maya Walk have lost out to Hanna's as the "IN" spot for congregating tourists. There are at least two others doing very well. San Ignacio Town across the Macal JRiver have a large variety of restaurants to choose from with unique cuisines. There are Hindu restaurants, lots of Chinese restaurants, American food restaurants, New Age places, vegetarian places, some even offer a massage as well. Many more such as Salvadoranean type and so on. The restaurant scene in the Twin Towns is very vibrant to fit every palate in a culinary experience. There are more and better restaurants in the Twin Towns than can be found in the large port of Belize City, or hot spot tourist mecca of San Pedro by the barrier reef. Over in Santa Elena Town we have a scarcity of restaurants. There are some local 'hole in the wall', coastal Belizean rice and beans and chicken stew places, a few open air sidewalk Bar-b-que places and two Chinese restaurants. Our own eating place is one of these Chinese restaurants that serves the working class. No fancy decor or atmosphere to speak of, but large portions of Chow Mein dishes for about $5 Belizean currency and Fried Chicken and French fries for $3.50 Belizean currency. Retirees on a fixed income like that. We take out from these regularly. Most working class do.
In reality the only place for a gourmet to experience a wide variety of authentic international culinary arts in the whole country of Belize, is the twin towns in Cayo West. There are more choices here than in all of the rest of the country put together. HANNA'S RESTAURANT is the number ONE though this high season, as proven by tourist word of mouth recommendations and selections to spend their money.
