Moving down mid January. I dont know how the residency thing works. I wont be denouncing my citizenship from USA as I plan on coming back eventually. Pretty much wanting to be a perpetual tourist.
My question is, as long as I have a physical address there (Im signing a lease on a condo) how hard (what steps) will I have to go through to register a 4 wheeler to drive.
I will probably buy it there or BC as I've heard bringing in vehicles can be a pain.
Thank you!

Once you are living here you will have to apply for a permit and have it approved by the San Pedro Traffic commitee before you purchase or bring any type of vehicle to the Island, I understand that there is a moratorium in place to restrict the amount of vehicles being imported to San Pedro, I'm not saying it is impossible to recieve a permit but it will be tough. It may take some time.
Reality..What a concept!

I have to ask: what does not denouncing citizenship have to do with moving to BZ and getting a vehicle?

Registering a vehicle shouldn't be a problem; just ask Mommy or Daddy to do it for you.

You don't have to denounce your US citizenship to live here. After five years you can even become a Belize citizen and still not denounce your US one. Beware - getting a permit is a slow process. It took me a year to get mine and I had already lived here a year. Bring a bycycle - with the roads the way they are it is a better ride.

What if you buy a vehicle that is already registered? or is the permit more for the driver, not the vehicle? AC

the permit is non-transferable...but sometimes the seller will leave the papers in their name for you.

AC I dont really care if you move here or not. I dont know you personally but you sound exactly like every new person who comes here "to live" and is gone in 6 months, and most locals wont even bother because you are a dime a dozen. Stop posting on this board, make some friends IN PERSON, and get here and figure things out for yourself. I'm sure you have alot of great ideas about your necessities and how you "need" to live, but til you walk a mile in our shoes, just stop. Good luck to you. I was you once and I hope it works out. Honestly from reading your posts I have my doubts and hope you dont quit your day job.

Honestly from reading your posts I have my doubts and hope you dont quit your day job. My day jobs on the computer (anywhere in the world). I've posted a few times about this already, guess you didnt read. I dont plan on staying there forever. Id say at least 6 months up to 2 years. I dont really plan on living anywhere forever. I like traveling and moving and meeting new people and doing new things. Thanks for the advice, Im SURE that its not all sandy beaches and drinks down there, and its a different way of life all together. As Im sure I will learn most of the things as I go there. I just post questions to try to get a general idea of rules/laws/the way things happen. That way Im at least semi educated to what Im getting into . I look very much forward to meeting and making friends in person. Will be a pleasure to meet you and anyone else that I can learn from down there! Hope all is well. Cya soon AC

AC many people make their intial friends in San Pedro via this board. This is where you can find out who have the same interests as you and you can plan to meet up with folks at certain events etc.
It may not be easy to make the big move but it will be challenging and hopefully fun.

For me, the move to SP was among the easiest things Ive ever done. Now the move back, well, thats a whole other story.
