Denise,

We just returned for AC and stayed at Coconuts which is just a couple of hotels down from Exotic Caye. We met some people staying at Exotic Caye. At first, they were disappointed but ended up liking it. Try to get one of the newer rooms, you'll like it better but you'll be fine with whatever. We used the pool there and it was nice. The beach area was very nice also and Crazy Canucks is the bar next to the pool area. Looked like a fun crowd there all the time. You'll be about 1/2 mile from town - doesn't sound far but walking in the sand when it's hot out can make it seem longer! Have a great time. Don't worry! Just have a few drinks on the plane and get a panty ripper (coconut rum and pineapple juice) when you get there! Let loose and enjoy!

Denise-if you're still looking for hotel feedback, here's my 2 cents. I asked for eye witness reports for Exotic Caye on this message board in April and got one response. That should have been a warning flag. And I learned to discount at least that one person's taste and definitely to remember that a pretty website does not a nice hotel make. Exotic Caye is falling apart, under construction, and is located on an unattractive stretch of beach. The restaurant is not open, the bar is for drinkers, the dive operation iffy. We had reservations for a week, showed up, were horrified that this is $130 a night? Tattered curtains and rusty refrigerator? $60 bucks, OK. Walked up the beach to Belize Yacht Club, spent $16 more a night and got first class everything.

However it works out for you, what a country, where everyone says good morning, good evening , and good night to each passerby. We should learn from the example the Belizans set.
