Hi All,

We are arriving to Belize City around 11 30 am, and my husband will not take the children on those small planes to the island. (He has a fear of flying, though those planes are very safe, I'm sure)
What boat is best to travel on with a baby? The covered one, San Pedro Jets? We'd like to get out to the caye as soon as possible, but it looks like that boat doesnt leave til 2 30 pm.
Any other advice for travel with children to Belize?
Are Belize City taxis safe?
Thanks so much.

I think pretty much all the boats are covered these days. Taxi drivers from International are licensed and part of an association so your safety is fine.

but mann... That will be one long day with the baby.. Just keep in mind that not going via plane could add about 3 hours to your trip.. (if you leave at 2:30) A long boat ride can be tortuous with a baby.

If your baby is exposed to the open air remember that you need to make sure his face isn't directly facing the wind - babies have a difficult time breathing when the wind is forceful.

Of course remember sunscreen and plenty of water too.

Hansen,
You are right, a long boat ride could be torturous with baby.
Perhaps my husband will reconsider the small planes.
He has a bit of a phobia about it. But it would just be so much easier and faster.
Thanks for the advice, everyone, much appreciated.

It's probably easier to give your hubby a valium and throw him on a plane than it is to put the baby through a long stressful travel day.

It will all be worth it! Enjoy your visit.

Have to agree with Amanda...

Plane = abt 15-20 min
Boat = abt 2 hour

And the view from the plane is amazing. I will never forget the thrill of seeing AC from the air.

Those particular planes, Cessna Caravans, have a terrific record. And, the pilots for Tropic Air are so well trained, with lots of air hours. I've heard, one of them is Jimmy Buffets pilot of choise. There was a recent post of him with Jimmy Buffets plane.

As I understand it neither Maya nor Tropic has ever left anybody up there. They all went with the plane.
