A new school building is being constructed for the Santiago Juan Preschool in San Ignacio town. Ground was broken this morning for the project.

"The project will be implemented by the Social Investment Fund at an approximate cost of $211,895.00 and financed by the Government of Belize through a loan from the Caribbean Development Bank. The pre-school will be able to accommodate 50 students in the morning and 50 in the afternoon. A ramp will be built to accommodate special needs children. Guest speaker for the project was Minister Erwin Contreras, Minister of Economic Development, Commerce, Industry and Consumer Protection who stated that learning takes place during the first five years and addressing the basic needs of our education in growth, play and health. He also thanked SIF for taking up the initiative. Other speakers included Cayo North area representative Salvador Fernandez and Executive Director for SIF, Daniel Cano. Pre-school education sets the foundation for the life long process of learning by equipping children with the basic literacy and social skill. Early childhood education is crucial for human development and poverty reduction."

According to a press release from the Social Investment Fund, the project entails the construction of a two thousand square feet concrete building with zinc roof, reinforced concrete floor, galvanized aluminum louvered windows with burglar bars and solid timber doors. The building will have one class room and will include a kitchenette and a boys and girls bathroom facility and will be built with facilities to accommodate special needs children. Landscaping, installation of playground equipment a supply of toys and electronic equipment is also included in the project. The official release says that the new Preschool building will be able to accommodate about one hundred students in multiple shifts.

Construction begins on pre-school in San Ignacio Town

The construction phase for a much anticipated pre-school was launched this morning in the Santiago Juan Layout of San Ignacio Town. The project is being implemented through the Social Investment Fund at an approximate cost of $221,895.00, and will entail the construction of a 2,000 sq feet concrete building. The building will have one classroom and will accommodate 50 students in the morning and 50 in the afternoon and a ramp will be constructed to accommodate children with special needs. The project also consists of a kitchenette, a boys and girls bathroom facility, a playground equipment, a supply of toys and electronic equipment such as a DVD player, television and radio. The pre-school is being financed by the Government of Belize through a loan from the Caribbean Development Bank.
