WHALE WATCHING SEASON ARRIVING SOON IN BELIZE!

The biggest of them all, can be found on special dates at Gladden Spit, outside the Great Coral Barrier Reef of Belize, in the SPRING MONTHS, as the Gulf Stream comes closer into the Great Barrier Reef, on it´s turn from going West, to going North. The Gulf Stream finally turns NorthEAST in the Florida Straits. The huge WHALE SHARKS come to feed, to do with the fish spawning, moon phases.

Prime times to see whale sharks at Gladden Spit this year are supposed to be the following dates: March 17-29, April 16-28, May 15-27 and June 13-25

No one is expecting this March to be much produtive, as the full moon falls too early in the month and very iffy you could see these 45 ft docile creatures closer to 10 days after the full moon-maybe. So arrange to be there April, May or June and its always more productive up to 10 days after the full moon. Incredibly humbling experience to dive or snorkel amongst them.

An encounter with a whale shark leaves one speechless.

We stayed at French Louie Caye and had the Seahorse Dive Shop pick us up on their way to the dive site. FLC is awesome, the whale shark experience beyond words.

The dive shops advise booking for three days of dives or snorkels because they are wild animals and there are no guarantees that you will have a sighting every time you try.

....I've often wondered if I would be afraid, have a panic attack or simply enjoy the moment.....Someday I'll have the nerve to try

I have a fair amount of experience diving and it made me nervous because of it being so much larger than me and its mouth was so large, I kept reassuring myself 'They don't hurt you, They don't hurt you.'
I think he wanted to play! but who can read its mind.

I had a "small" one decide to play with me - she was about 25 feet long and trying to eat my bubbles - I was mostly mindful that we'd been told not to touch them - other than that I was in love with that fish ------ she was as beautiful and graceful as anything I've ever seen.
Can't even imagine an encounter with one twice the size ----

We will be down May 16th thru June 1st, soon. The moon phase seems to be a bit off for this time frame, has anyone seen any this season? We would love to experience these wonders. Looks like it may have to wait until our next visit.
