The Benque House of Culture is having their Hurricane Hattie @ 51 Exhibition Launch this evening at 7:00pm. They'll have survivors there relating their stories of Hurricane Hattie. The exhibit will run through November 23rd.

"You are invited to join us as we unveil the Hurricane Hattie Exhibition at its 51 years Anniversary, this Thursday. Special invited guests will make presence and share an intimate conversation and reflections, based on this experience and hardships in October 1961."

I was in Belize City during Hattie. It was a terrifying experience.

There is an excellent book called, "Our Man In Belize", written by a diplomat stationed at the US Embassy in BC during Hattie which is a very good read, as well as full of information about what they did, what happened, and how they all (and their families) managed to survive. I can't think of the author's name, but you should be able to find it by the title.

The video presentation at the Belize City Museum is boldly graphic and real. It shows a fraction of what it was like "after" .......... just that little bit of film is terrifying. Natalie, we're grateful that you survived.

Hurricane Hattie @ 51 Exhibit

The Benque House of Culture launched their Hurricane Hattie at 51 exhibit on Thursday. They had many survivors relate their experiences of the hurricane. The link above goes to some pictures from the well attended event.
