Traveling to AC for the first time in March. I have been to the Yucatan several times and have gotten sick on more that one occasion from drinking the water.

Quick question: How is the water on AC? Can you drink it or should be stick to bottled water?

It is safe to drink, I have a very weak stomach and drank it. But bottled water is very available, and the price is not bad at all. Your choice.

Water...It can ruin a vacation to get even a sip of bad water...I drank the water on main land Belize but I believe we treated each gallon with a drop or two of Iodine which kills of any parasites that might be lurking. I know other visitors weren't as lucky. Pays to be cautious!

I read an interesting article in the San Pedro Sun (or was it the other paper?) just a week or two ago. There had been a study done on the water quality of the tap water vs the bottled water. Surprise, surprise, there was virtually no difference in bacterial count. Regardless, I brush my teeth with the tap water and drink the bottled, though I've been known to drink the tap water too. I've never had a problem ever.

I've had a problem everywhere else in the world that I have ever been other than the Cook Islands, so I take it as a good sign.

I always drank the bottled water, though it's hard to avoid any local water, if you take ice, eat salad, whatever. I have gotten a funky stomach thing both times. Nothing serious, just seems to hang on forever. Don't know if it's from the water or what. Strange, but not a big deal.

Not to cast any aspersions on anyone posting in this thread but I do often get a kick out of people that go away on a holiday and drink more in one week than they usually do in months and then can't figure out why their tummy isn't quite right. They often blame it on the water. smile

Good, my chuckle for today.

In all of our visits to Belize, we have Not been ill, lucky perhaps?
We've had bottled water access all the time, right in our room as well. Although we brush with water from the bathroom sinks.

Who knows what a cocktail or more has in them, after the first one? Sorry, not stepping on toes either, just chuckling.

We've made 3 trips, with 6-10 people each time. Drink the bottled in the villa, brush with the tap, make coffee from the tap. Had water at the eating spots, and ice in the drinks. Eaten everything everywhere. Never a hint of any upsets that could be tied to food or water (other drinks, maybe, but not because of the ice).
On our different trips to the Yucatan, we did avoid water, even unsealed bottled water (some hotels would refill them from the tap) and stayed away from salads and a few other things. Never an issue on AC, eat, drink and be merry.

Been there, done that, the washing machine ate the T-shirt

My 2 cents... the local water is just really chlorinated and i don't like that aspect of it so i drink bottled water, mainly because i drink about a gallon of water a day. You could make coffee with tap, it hides the flavor. I brush with tap, no problems. I've never gotten a bad tummy from it in any case.

The water is just fine, even more so if you hunger for the taste of chlorine. The chlorine after taste is the only reason we drink bottled water in SP, and use the tap water for brushing of teeth and and the washing of white garments.
